Our story begins in the vineyards of northern Portugal, where wine has been part of daily life for generations. Harvested by hand, shared at the table, and shaped by respect for the land.
These traditions, the people, and the places behind them became the foundation of Diniz Cellars.
Our Family Roots
My family’s roots run deep in northern Portugal, in the small mountain village of Arcos, Montalegre, in the rugged region of Trás-os-Montes.
For generations, wine was part of everyday life. Vines were grown by hand. Wine was made for the family table. In my grandfather Américo’s modest home, a small tavern welcomed neighbors at the end of long days in the fields, where a simple copo de vinho was shared in good company.
On both sides of my family, harvests were shared moments. Long days of work were followed by meals together, stories told, and traditions passed from one generation to the next. These lessons were learned not from books, but from the land itself.

Today, that tradition continues. While we no longer make our own wine, returning to Portugal and witnessing a new generation of winemakers working with intention and care made our purpose clear. To bring these wines, and the people behind them, to the United States.
