Global Wines & Vinha Maria
Global Wines was born in 1990 in Dão, under the company’s name Dão Sul.
They wanted to be the biggest company in the oldest region of still and unfortified wines in Portugal- the Dão Wine Region. When they reached that goal, they chased other dreams, other adventures, in other regions and other countries.
Today they are still the leading company in Dão. Through the language of wine, they build a bridge between a small mountainous region in the centre of Portugal and the world.
Vinha Maria
Vinha Maria wines were born from the knowledge and diversity of Global Wines throughout the different Regions and Terroirs of Portugal. From the mountains to the sea. From the highest vineyards to the plains, they have chosen the best grapes and the best blends to create modern wines, spreading the Portuguese grapes diversity and the uniqueness of Portuguese wines.
Dão
Dão Demarcated Region was created in 1908. Known as the “Portuguese burgundy”, Dão region, in the center of Portugal (at “Beira Alta” province) was the first demarcated region of non-liqueur wines of the country.
The main region characteristics are the rugged terrain, the soil predominantly granitic, with a unique terroir, and a large thermal amplitude. Dão wines have an exceptional acidity, complexity and delicate aromas. These wine’s character, balance and elegance, and the aging potential distinguish them from all the others.
